EDI Community of Practice
UC San Diego's EDI Community of Practice is a new initiative of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion which will launch in early 2025. It is composed of EDI practitioners across the enterprise who have been asked to serve in such a role by their unit’s leadership.
Strengthening UC San Diego's commitment to EDI is not just a goal; it is an ongoing process. It requires continuous reflection, action, and collaboration. Through this EDI Community of Practice, we bring to life our Strategic Plan for Inclusive Excellence, create the networks and connections necessary to achieve greater impact, to do better, and to attain the highest levels of inclusive excellence on our campus.
Through leadership and connection provided by VC EDI, the EDI Community of Practice is an opportunity for knowledge exchange, strategy alignment, collaboration, and mutual support around equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts. Moreover, it is a space for rejuvenation, a place to recharge and find strength in shared commitment and community, a place to develop relationships, allyships, and partnerships that will help sustain collective commitment to improving the UC San Diego experience for everyone.
The EDI Community of Practice will meet twice per quarter, and shifts between in-person and online. All participants in the EDI Community of Practice participate in VC EDI’s Two Day Learning Intensive, which is required to join the EDI Community of Practice. It provides a baseline of EDI knowledge and skills for UC San Diego employees doing EDI work, as well as initial alignment and community building. The registration process for the Two Day Learning Intensive and subsequent admission into the EDI Community of Practice is by invitation only, and requires certain commitments both before, during, and after the Two Day EDI Learning Intensive.
Although the EDI Community of Practice is a professional development experience, this is not an introductory or mid-level opportunity. High level expectations from those who complete the Two Day Learning Intensive make this an advanced opportunity for career professionals with a long-term investment in the success of UC San Diego. Participants in the EDI Community of Practice are eligible to apply for UC San Diego’s LEAD Fellows.
